Too Hip To Be Square

This quilt came about because of the most senior, coolest quilter (Ruth) I have ever had the privilege to meet at a quilting retreat.

Ruth sat beside me and at the end of the day. While my work-station looked like a disaster, Ruth’s work-station was clean, fabric folded, and she had a glass of sherry in hand.

I was trying to square up the quilt top I was developing but was having difficulty because I had one arm in a sling. Ruth offered to square up the quilt top for me. The next morning when I held up the squared quilt top, we saw that it wasn’t square but crooked. Ruth asked what happened to my squared top. My response was that I wasn’t certain, but I guess that squaring up and sherry do not mix.

I loved it so much that I kept it that way and entitled it “Too Hip to be Square” in honour of Ruth.
