Heartstrings

I wanted to see if I could piece this quilt without appliqué, glue or Y-seams. Each piece of fabric is cut on the bias with curved seams. Even the background fabric was cut up and re-sewn to create multiple angles.

I knew it would be challenging, but what surprised me were the emotions that came with it. I was constantly thinking of a childhood friend who left this world too soon. When I spoke to her sister about the colours, she said those were her sister’s colours. Were they chosen subconsciously? I don’t know, but I learned that after 30 years the loss of her still pulls at my heartstrings.
